Body changes after pregnancy is expected. Although to be honest, my focus wasn’t on those things for the first couple of weeks at least. It is always expected, however, that whatever thing happens to our bodies during pregnancy, would eventually go way after we deliver. These weird pregnancy symptoms however came to stay.
1. You develop Dental Issues
After pregnancy, I assumed that there would have been a lot of changes to my body, but having dental issues wasn’t on my list. At all. I have never heard of this being a thing until I had my first child. A year after giving birth (yes one year) I made a visit to the dentist for the first time in a long time. They told me that I had several cavities. I’ve never claimed to have had perfect teeth before, but I have always taken care of my teeth as best as I could. So, to have heard that I had so many cavities came as a shock to me. In addition to having cavities, my teeth now has an overbite. Way more than it ever did. So, now, after my second baby, I’m probably going to need braces.
2. Your taste in food changes after pregnancy
I don’t know if this is universal, or even if others have experienced this, but I have noticed that after each pregnancy, my taste in foods have changed. Before my first, I was a picky eater (sort of) and with that there were a few foods that I disliked and thus refused to eat. However, after my first pregnancy, most of those dislikes pretty much went through the door, and foods that I ‘loved’ before now became a dislike? It was after my second where I noticed the most changes. For example, I was never big on Jamaican patties, however, during my second pregnancy and after, I now loooove them. Another example is beef. I would eat beef if it was the only thing available. However, during my second pregnancy, since I was unable to eat much, beef became a staple for me. I actually craved it. Now, I actually go out to restaurants just to order beef. To eat.
3. Your brain is mush
Dory. She’s me. I’m her. We’re the same. I have never related to any character in an animated movie more than I have to Dory in Finding Dory. Me to myself: “Where’s the sugar? I just used it” My husband: “Why is the sugar in the fridge?” And the worst part is, I don’t even remember putting it in there. After my first pregnancy, I had realized I had gotten forgetful, but after this second one, its a surprise I can even remember my name. The Scotsman says it may be a result of sleep deprivation and hormonal changes and that it should last a for a few months or up to a year. Studies haven’t researched past that point. But its been four years for me, and with this second baby, I’m guessing its here to stay. Do you know that some studies have shown that during and after a pregnancy a woman’s brain may changes in size? I believe that wholeheartedly.
4. Your Feet grow after pregnancy
This was the most shocking for me. And the one I hated the most. I didn’t even know that this was a thing until after my first pregnancy where my feet grew from a size 6 to a 6.5. I thought about how weird it was, and annoying, but didn’t think much of it still. Four years later, I have a 2 month old and size 7/7.5 feet. So no, there will be no ‘pregnancy updates‘ coming in the future. At least, I hope not. According to Genesis Healthcare system it has now been confirmed to be a science proven fact that pregnancy will cause your feet size to permanently change. A study showed that over 60% of women had longer and wider feet after they gave birth. I’m among that 60%. The reason for this is that during pregnancy, the hormones inside the body cause ligaments to loosen around your pelvis as well as in your feet, thus causing the bones in your feet to grow in length and in width. Sighs. Its one thing to have a theory (that you dislike) about something, but to actually hear that it has been confirmed/proven by science is whole other thing.
