What should you expect when you’re expecting?

What should you expect when you’re expecting?

I’m sure you’ve heard the millions of pregnancy, delivery and overall mom stories. Well, they’re all true!

Most of us expect what we see in movies or what we read in books/magazines. The truth is, although some women have been lucky enough to experience those smooth, wonderful, ‘everything-is-just-perfect’ pregnancies, others have not. So much so that those who didn’t have such wonderful experiences, become adamant that the first will be their last.

Take Kim Kardashian West, for example, she mentioned that she had very difficult pregnancies and as such, for her last two children, she opted to have surrogates.

Pregnancy is a wonderful thing. But it can also be scary and in some cases, brutal. Other times, everything just feels like a hot mess.

Then there are these rare, BEAUTIFUL moments. The moments where you wonder why the world hasn’t stopped turning to marvel with you. Or those moments where you feel like everything is just right, everything is as it should be and you feel proud that you ARE DOING this.

So, what should you expect when you’re expecting?

Expect everything. And sometimes, nothing at all.

Everyone is different. Thus, everyone will have different experiences.

You can expect that you may become a worrywart.

Everything you eat, you’ll research. And I do mean EVERYTHING! Words of advice though, always research (and by research you know that I mean google) before you eat something or you’ll end up like me, worrying like there’s no end!

You can expect that you’ll feel tired most of the time! And hungry! Tired and hungry. That was my motto pretty much throughout my whole pregnancy. “I’m tired and I want to sleep, but I’m also hungry.”

Expect that you’re going to be peeing every three minutes (okay I’m exaggerating). But you’ll be peeing quite often, especially later on in your pregnancy. Did I mention how annoying that’s going to be? There will be many a debate in your head as to whether or not it’s worth getting up to pee for the fiftieth time, or would the clean up of the bed be way less stress.

You can expect that there will be quite a few times when you’ll probably cry over spilt milk. Literally! Or cry because the pickle juice wasn’t salty enough. It’s a toss-up at this point. You can thank the increase in hormones for that.

Eventually, no matter how much you loved being pregnant before, you’re going to want that baby out of you! You’re going to probably get so tired of being pregnant, of swollen feet and everything else that may tag along with it.

If I don’t remember anything else, as much as I wanted my baby girl to grow and grow well, I also really wanted her out of me, because I was just so tired of being pregnant!

What else?

Oh yeah, you can expect that within the first few weeks of post-pregnancy, you probably won’t shower or get the chance to shower! Ewwy! But that’s the truth. But it’s okay, you’ll survive being smelly for a few days. Or weeks.

But then, you’ll realize that you have your beautiful baby there next to you and everything, you’ll recognize, is right with the world.

Tell me your story below. I’d love to hear it.
